The National Troupe of Nigeria has created over 500 jobs with new stage play titled “Echoes of the Drum”. This soon-to-be staged masterpiece written by Thespian and Broadcast Journalist Ola Awakan and directed by Mike Anyanwu is set to be staged on Thursday, 29th of September, 2022 at the MUSON Centre, Onikan, Lagos.

This was revealed by the Chief Executive Officer and Artistic Director of the National Troupe of Nigeria (NTN), Mr Ahmed Mohammed. Mr Ahmed stated that the NTN took up this play as a means of playing their part and “lending a voice of contribution to peace, brotherliness and love within the diverse cultures and ethnicity in Nigeria”.

In regards to the unveiling of this massive theatre project, Mr Ahmed also hinted that the play will provide over 500 employment opportunities for youths within the theatre and the creative industry at large.

Meanwhile, the National Troupe of Nigeria further revealed in a Press Statement that the major unique element of the play is the extensive use of several and diverse drum instrumentations from different parts of the country in the storytelling and narration of the complex themes this play is set to explore.

However, it was also revealed that the main drive behind this theatrical display is to serve as a beacon of hope and unity in this current grim reality the country is battling.

“To tell home relevant and timely messages at this dire moment in our political, cultural and ethno-centric landscapes” as well as promote the diverse, colourful and beautiful culture of our Fathers’ land, Nigeria.

The play is set to be opened to the general public for a substantial fee.

The National Troupe of Nigeria is the nation’s top performing arts agency under the directive of the Federal government. It was established in 1991 with the mission to promote and project Nigeria’s diverse rich cultural heritage in music, dance and drama and in all other performing and artistic expression.
