

The Lagos State government has reiterated its commitment to the promotion and encouragement of arts and its expression through a collaboration with Terra Culture for the premiere of the Lagos International Theatre Festival set to take place this November 14th to 17th.
The governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwoolu, during an address at the Lagos House, Marina disclosed that the state is elated and committed to the collaboration in a bid to give Lagosians and attendees a beautiful cultural experience and encourage cultural appreciation.
He also revealed the state’s stance on encouraging theatre practitioners and promoting cultural events that aligns with Lagos’ vision of becoming a leading cultural and tourism destination.
“Our hope is to use this brilliant initiative to support theatre practitioners and to encourage listing art activities ahead so that visitors to our state can have an idea of what each month offers for them,” the Governor said
The festival founder and renowned theatre producer, Mrs. Bolanle Austen-Peters, revealed that the mission of the festival is to spotlight the authenticity of African storytelling as well as the numerous talents the continent has to offer.
“After several world-class plays that we have promoted locally and internationally and after training more than 26,000 youngsters through the Terra Academy for the Arts, we are delighted to be using LITF to draw attention to live theatre, determined to continue to lead the charge that stage plays are alive and well in Nigeria.”
Mrs Bolanle also announced that the event coincides with the 20th anniversary of the Terra Kulture Group, and the platform will be used to position live theatre as a vibrant force within Nigeria and beyond.
The Lagos International Theatre Festival is set to take place for four days and will display an impressive lineup of 25 stage plays, including three standout productions from the United States, South Africa, and Zambia.
The event include live performances, engaging workshops by theatre veterans and professionals as well interactions with practitioners in the world of live theatre across four iconic Lagos venues; Terra Kulture Arena, MUSON Centre, University of Lagos, and Glover Hall.
The Lagos International Theatre Festival is poised to strengthen Nigeria’s position as a global arts and tourism destination, while celebrating the enduring vibrancy of theatre in Africa.
