The Governor of Ekiti State, who also doubles as the Chairman of Northern Governors’ Forum, Kayode Fayemi has said that culture plays a very crucial role in the development of a nation.
The Governor who was the guest speaker at the 50 years Anniversary of the Historical, Documentation and Research Center, Arewa House in Kaduna spoke on the topic “Unfinished Greatness towards the more perfect union in Nigeria”.
Fayemi who affirmed that Africa has a culture, as well as history stressed that it should not be ignored, rather be a culture for development, and not culture for mere-say.
According to him, “Development Anthropologist have long concluded that Culture plays a crucial role in development. In other words, every culture essentiallly contains the facilities for progress and advancement. The language in which we articulate our ideas; our diets and consumption patterns; our architectures and the way we live; our religion and how we understand our relationship with God and to the universe, our Nation of ethics, morality and justice, all these, in different forms and at different levels, provide the essential driving force for development”
Buttressing further, Fayemi said the more diverse the cultures within a nation, the more resources they have for development and for progress.
He further reiterated his position on the blessing of diversity saying, “Homogeneity is not necessarily a blessing and diversity needs not to be a curse”
